“When the opportunity to spend time with gorillas in Uganda came up, we jumped at it. The whole experience defies description really, but suffice it to say there will be many artworks inspired by the trip as it was very special indeed. One of the main things that strikes you, is the similarities between gorillas and humans. This infant was lying on their mothers back, simply looking up in to the trees and it’s difficult to feel the thoughts going through their mind were all that different from the thoughts that go through ours.
I draw with Uni-ball biros on raw linen canvas. To prepare the surface, I lighten the canvas with a very diluted gesso wash. Once this is dry, I draw with the biro, as I would with pencil on paper. After the drawing is complete, it’s varnished (to fix the ink in place) and more white paint is used to add light and finalise the composition. The ink is actually surprisingly versatile, in terms of its colour. If I want a blue tinge to the work I can layer white oil paint over it, or leave the canvas showing through to leave a sepia tone.”
I make all my own frames for my original artworks, I use mouldings of the finest specification, to ensure they match the quality of the art.
At present, I can only ship to the UK via the website. I can ship to other destinations, but I’ll need you to get in touch, using the contact me form, for a quote if buying from outside the UK.
All the art I sell is packaged extremely carefully, to keep your painting safe for it’s journey, no matter how far. I have years of experience packaging original artworks for transport to all parts of the world, so you can have faith your unique piece of art will arrive safe and sound. This can take some time, especially with original paintings, however, I aim to ship all art within 2 working days.
