“We were staying in a chalet right by the side of a lake a few years ago. There was a large amount of wildlife there, especially birds, we saw moorhens, the ubiquitous ducks, egrets, a large roost of pied wagtails and lots of coots. It was the middle of winter, so the lake was mostly frozen. This painting is of a coot as it takes off, breaking the ice as it moves. It focuses on the feeling of glimpsing wildlife through vegetation as it disappears from view.
It was done predominantly in Bic biro, but I’ve also added white oil paint over the top of some areas. Initially doing this turns the biro ink blue, but this gradually changes, as the oils dry, until you are left with a yellow/brown aged look. This takes a few weeks to settle into its final colour, so you never quite know what it’s going to look like in the end.”
I make all my own frames for my original artworks, I use mouldings, paints and varnishes of the finest specification. The colours are individually selected to match each piece of art, ensuring the best finish possible.
At present, I can only ship to the UK via the website. I can ship to other destinations, but I’ll need you to get in touch, using the contact me form, for a quote if buying from outside the UK.
