Helman Tor is the second tor we’ve visited as part of this project (the first being Nipstone Rock in Shropshire) and I think they’re now one of my favourite geological features. They offer real drama. The large rock features are dramatic enough, but when you pair them with breath-taking views across the landscape, they really are hard to beat.

Helman Tor really is stunning and plays a key role in a new, exciting, ambitious and wonderful project made possible by the National Lottery Fund. Over the next 6 years the project will create a Local Nature Recovery Network spanning across land and sea – one of the first of its kind in the UK – bringing together rewilding principles, sustainable farming practices, and marine conservation activities, all underpinned by communities.
As we approached the reserve we were treated to fantastic views of the tor from the road. There were lots of rain showers about, which made for a moody view across the rolling hills and when we arrived the showers were sprinkled between the sunshine.

There was also a LOT of wind, which made for reasonably challenging conditions, but regardless of any of that, it was an extremely inspiring place, probably actually enhanced by the conditions.
