The story of this commission is very unusual and touching. My wife's daughter is a beautician, and she told me of a wonderful client of hers who wanted to buy 2 prints of my picture Fields of Gold as this was the name of a song sung by her neice at her mother's funeral. She wanted to buy the prints for her two sisters as a memory of their mother. Needless to say, I was flattered and touched for my art to be used in such a way.
I was even more flattered to be contacted again by Debbie and Andrew to ask me to paint a picture that had multiple meanings. I won't go into all the details, but if you look carefully, you can find references to (among many other things) wine, classical opera, bee keeping, family and friends in the painting.
The whole experience of completing this work was wonderful. I had the pleasure of getting to know two extremely nice people and to produce a piece of art that is unique and something I will treasure.
Here's what they said about it:
"We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with Cy on our painting "Southern Rhone". We had a feeling we wanted him to capture, which took a bit of explaining. He listened and made suggestions and over time he created just what we wanted. He is a lovely person to work with and has a great talent. So creative! I can't tell you how excited we are to have the painting in our home. He is on his way now to deliver it and we can't wait!"
