Trees have a certain still power about them and this feels particularly true of the oak. The oak is a symbol of longevity and strength, but there is also a long history of the Oak being part of ancient religion. The Druids worshipped in Oak groves and their name is thought to mean 'men of the oaks', a Gaelic derivation of their word for oak, Duir.
It is this history and spirituality I wanted to capture in the piece. The tree that inspired the work was seen on a walk in the Fritham area of the New Forest. Using oil paints to lay down the colour onto un-primed linen canvas, I then used biro to try and create a soft, yet powerful atmosphere. Incorporating an echo of the tree into the picture to add to the sense of woodland and history.
All original paintings, if available, use hand-made frames that are painted to the finest specifications. The colours are individually selected to match each piece of art, ensuring the best finish possible. The frames for prints (if available) are standard sized, pre-made, frames that are solid wood and made to the highest quality.
